Jyotish Q&A guide
How Vedic astrology reads love, career, money, marriage and health — general explanations, not a personal reading.

How Jyotish reads each area of life
The answers above are general. They explain which parts of a birth chart a Vedic astrologer looks at for a question, so you know what to look for in your own Kundli. They are pre-written explanations, not predictions, and they are not based on your chart.
Houses, lords and karakas
A chart has twelve houses (bhavas), each governing an area of life. Every question is read from three things together: the house itself and any planets in it, the lord of that house and where it sits, and the natural significator (karaka) of the subject. For marriage, for example, that means the 7th house, its lord, and Venus. A house with a strong, well-placed lord and benefic influence promises more than one whose lord is weak or afflicted.
Love and marriage
Romance is read from the 5th house and marriage from the 7th. Venus is the karaka of love and of the wife in a man’s chart; Jupiter is traditionally the karaka of the husband in a woman’s chart. Astrologers also study the Navamsa (D9), the divisional chart most used for marriage. For two people, Kundli Milan compares their Moon nakshatras across eight factors worth 36 points in all, and Mangal Dosha is checked separately.
Career and money
Career belongs to the 10th house, the Karma Bhava, with Saturn as the karaka of work and the Sun of authority and government. The Dashamsa (D10) chart refines it. Wealth is read from the 2nd house of savings and family and the 11th house of income and gains, with Jupiter as the karaka of prosperity. Yogas formed between the lords of the 1st, 2nd, 5th, 9th and 11th houses are called Dhana yogas.
Health
Vitality is read from the 1st house and its lord, the Sun and the Moon; the 6th house shows illness and recovery, and the 8th chronic matters. Jyotish is not medicine: please see a doctor for any health concern.
Timing
A chart shows what is promised; Dashas show when. In the Vimshottari system each planet rules a period of the life, and a house’s promise usually comes forward during the Dasha or Antardasha of its lord, or of planets placed in it. Transits of Saturn and Jupiter add the final timing. Your Kundli lists your running Mahadasha and Antardasha with their dates.
