Every service on this page starts from the same place: your birth chart, calculated from your date, time and place of birth. If the chart is wrong, every reading built on it is wrong, so the calculation comes first.

The astronomy

Planetary positions are computed by our own engine from published astronomical algorithms (Jean Meeus, Astronomical Algorithms) and checked against the Swiss Ephemeris, the reference used by professional astrology software. On our reference charts the largest difference is about 0.05 degrees — far smaller than a nakshatra pada, which spans 3 degrees 20 minutes. Positions are converted to the sidereal zodiac with the Lahiri (Chitrapaksha) ayanamsa, the standard adopted by the Government of India’s calendar reform committee and used by most Indian astrologers.

Sunrise and sunset, which decide the Panchang, Rahu Kaal and Choghadiya, are calculated for the exact place and checked against TimeAndDate.com for 28 cities on six continents. The time zone of your birthplace, including historical daylight saving, is applied before anything else.

The Jyotish

• Houses: whole-sign houses from the Lagna (ascendant), the classical Parashari method.
• Dashas: Vimshottari, from the Moon’s nakshatra at birth, with Antardasha sub-periods; Yogini and Chara Dasha are also shown.
• Divisional charts: Navamsa (D9) and the other vargas, used for marriage, career and strength.
• Strength: Shadbala and Ashtakavarga, which show how much each planet can deliver.
• Yogas and doshas: detected by rule from the chart, with cancellations listed.
